Sketchbook Post

I love my sketchbook. I love to just open it and draw things or ideas that fly through my mind. Mostly though its a time to relax and just enjoy drawing, I don’t worry about being technicly perfect, there are usually a lot of mistakes when I go back and look at them later, but who cares. I started the drawing for my next bigger painting and will be posting weekly updates and a progress Gif at the end.

Thanks for taking a look,

Bill

There be dragons.

Did you ever see two dragons fight? I was thinking along this line as I was racking my brain trying to come up with a dragon themed study for my next painting. I also want to show some movement or conflict between two dragons. Maybe a territory fight or one dragon protecting his brood. Anyway I will comitt to this one and see it through to a finished painting. I’ll look for a cool background and cut out the dragons and paste them over it for the finished reference, maybe a mountain with a blue sky.

Thanky for dropping by and stay classy,

Bill

Sketchbook Post.

I have three sketchbooks and all are about one quarter full. My goal this year is to fill at least one of them by the end of the year.
As always, thanks for taking a look,

Sketchbook.

sketchbook

October, November are busy months for me. Usually things pop up that I have to take care of and then there is little time left for painting. The last two weeks have been like that, I just didn’t get to paint for one reason or another. I do try to sketch or draw (long live the sketchbook) at least once a day. Well it happened again this weekend that I wasn’t able to paint, so took out the pastels and did some studies. One good thing is that I really enjoy pencil drawing and I restarted my Monday night gesture drawing sessions.

Thanks for looking in and be friendly to each other, don’t let the hate take over,

Bill

Sketchbook Dragon study.

Dragon sketch

Hey people, heres something from my sketchbook. I’ve been looking at a lot of lizards and reptile lately trying to get ideas for a dragon. I will probably go with this head, but more horns on his head and maybe one close to his jaw. My next step is to take this into blender and model and then sculpt him. I’ve one or two more weeks on my current painting, I’m closing in on the final layer and we are slowly but surely becoming friends again.

Thanks for looking in and stay healthy,

Bill

Sketchbook Girl with a Dragon.

GIRL AND DRAGON

Hey people, almost three fourths finished with my large painting and I’m looking and thinking about ideas for the next one. I’ll probably develop this sketch that I made quite a while ago. I was looking at a lot of Jeffery-Catherine Jones’ painting and I got the idea for this. I still like the idea behind this, a girl with her dragon, partners in crime looking at what they had just stole or robbed together. The dragon looks to friendly, I’ve been looking at iguana and their anatomy trying to get ideas and their skin patterns. I’ll be making a detailed drawing of this before I start. I’ll also be painting this on illustration board, which will be a first for me. But first I have to finish my painting that I’m painting now.

Thanks for stopping by,

Bill

Changing mediums.

WOMAN AND TIGERThe storm

After working in one medium for a while I like to step back and change mediums. Either doing a drawing after working for a while in oils or I’ll take a week off and work on a sketch in artrage. I then go back to my main project and feel better or invigorated and have a fresh eye for what I am painting. These aren’t meant to be finished pictures just sort of a break for my brain to look at something else after spending days on the same picture.

Next week I’ll show my progress on The First sword of Bravos, I am slowly but surely coming into stage 4 of the painting, where we meet up and both the painting and me are starting come to terms with each other.

Thanks for looking in,

Bill

Sketchbook post

Achilles

Hi People ,

Heres something from my sketchbook that I will be following. The next step for me would be to model the stairs and background in Blender and then make reference photos from me posing in all the characters. Maybe something will be added or something will be taken away, but all in all I’ll be wanting to get the feel of this . Sort of a stand-off between the person on top and the people rushing him up the stairs.

After the photos are shot, I’ll be creating characters in Makehuman and then positioning them in Blender for a final render which will be used for a line drawing on my canvas.

Thanks for looking in,

Bill

Guarding the pass- Artrage digital sketch.

guarding-the-pass-web.jpg

I’ve started taking a night out of the week to sketch in Artrage. This gives me the chance to experiment with the program and see what each tool can do and just have a good time sketching from my imagination. There are some interesting sketches that have come from this. I used the oil paint brush for this one.

Thanks for looking in,

Bill

Sketchbook post- Container City.

container city

A sketch from my sketchbook. I image when humans finally take to the stars and inhabit other planets, they will erect prefabricated cities. I followed this thought and tried to image what life would be like.

Thanks for looking in,

Bill
