Oil Painting Aurora.

Finished this, this week. A very good friend of mine posed for this. This and my painting The Raven’s song will be entered into our towns art competition this fall. I’m happy I finished this in so short of time, I guess I’m just getting quicker. I also think its time to get out of my comfort zone and paint a dragon or some other fantastic beast. It will either be a dragon or a sphinx, but then again when I write about what I’m going to do next, I usually paint something completely different.

Thanks for stopping by,

Bill

Half-Way mark.

half-way

So heres what I’ve been working on for the last month and a half. I November last year I had no idea what I wanted to paint next. I read somewhere you should paint something or something you are interested in (fan art) or look up to. I decide to go back to my comic book years and pick a character that I thought was cool, my first thought was wolverine or Spiderman. Both character in conflict with themselves ( early spiderman) and their surroundings. I settled on Wolverine. I had my wife take pictures of me posing in different Wolverine poses and settled on this one. I still have about a month and a half work left with this one, but so far I’m liking it.

Thanks for stopping in and stay warm,

Unfinished business.

nude-week-1

Didn’t quite get this done this weekend. I’ll save it for next week. I’ve about two or three paintings to finish before I start something bigger again. Unfortunately I have no ideas for a bigger painting. I guess I’ll just get everything done that I have laying around here to fill the time.  Now its time to put the brushes down and spend time with my family.

See you next week,

Bill

A riddle, wrapped in a mystery

a-riddle-wrapped-in-a-mystery-web

A study for my next painting. I see all my mistakes and will correct them in the next painting. Trying to get a feeling of mystery. The painting will have a full-body pose though and a different background. Thanks for looking in.

Stay healthy,

Bill

Standing man’s back, oil painting.

Standing man's back-web

More an anatomy study then a finished painting. I like the dark reds in the shadows, that is  something the mighty Frazetta used to do in his paintings.. This is a short post this week, gathering thoughts for a facebook page and starting the Ebay motor maybe next week. I’ve been gathering my pictures and looking through them to see what I can auction off. The thing with Ebay is you usually have to stick with one style and motif and that is you on Ebay, but looking through my stuff, I don’t have one direction that I’ve been working on. Oh well, eyes closed and lets do it.

See you around,

Bill

Self Portrait after a day at the beach.

SelfPortrait-web

This is me after not shaving for two weeks and coming back from the beach. I painted this wet on wet and it took me about eight hours to finish.  I’ve a few projects on the back burner that I need to get finished and then I’ll be doing another bigger painting with a woman staring at you and I’ll try to put a few ravens in it because ravens are cool.

Thanks for looking in,

Bill

“The Raven’s Song,” Oil Painting finished.

The Raven's Song-web

I finally finished this one after three months of painting. I really tried my best at getting her face just right, I think I spend three weeks on her alone. I am very happy with this painting, and will probably be hanging this one in my home after framing it. This will also be my submission for the art exhibit in our town this fall.

I still haven’t started on my next painting yet. I didn’t have time to take any photos or start the graphite drawing. I will finish up a some of my smaller paintings that I have laying around here before moving on.

Thanks for stopping by and stay positive,

Bill

Alla Prima portrait silent film actress Lily Brayton.

AllaPrima-LillyBrayton-web

Hi People,

I’m continuing my series of silent film actresses with Lily Brayton. I try to only spend 8 hours max on these even though they are not that small. I spent a little more time on this one, but there are still issues about it and this one spanned two weekend, because I couldn’t get this finished last week.

Thanks for looking in,

Bill

All Prima portrait Constance Bennett.

Alla-PrimaConstanceBennett-web

Hey people, still painting wet on this one, I just finished this a couple of minutes ago and the paint is still wet. This is the beautiful Constance Bennett one of the highest paid starlets of the 20s and 30s.  I concentrated on the hair and face and tried to painterly finish the dress, concentrating more the values. I used a limited palette of the colors prussian blue, naples yellow,  raw umber, crimson red, burnt sienna and of course white. I’ll be doing these portraits until I finish my next larger painting, which I am half way finished with. This way I have the feeling that I am getting something done while working on my larger painting during the week.

Thanks for looking in and stay healthy,

Bill
