I was going to call this painting Hunting Orcs, because that was my original idea. Someone out in the wild, hunting orcs or trying to protect themselves while being hunted and turning the tables and hunting the hunter. But as I was painting I realized the name didn’t fit so settled on the Latin phrase for The Huntress. I took my time on this one, like I had mentioned before, life comes at you sometimes and Art has to take a back seat. An important person in my life will be having corrective surgery in the next few days and I had to make arrangements. Needless to say I’ve been occupied with other things than Art.
Why I paint and draw and generally why I create my Stuff: (drummmmrollll)
I have no idea why, generally speaking I really don’t know why. I don’t earn money with it. I don’t get a lot of positive feedback either. I guess its just that I get a good feeling doing it and I’m addicted to that feeling. Yeah it makes me feel good to actually draw or paint. I do studies, make reference photos and sketch my ideas out as thumbnails all the stuff that you’re “supposed” to do. Will I ever make this my main job and quit my day job? If thing don’t change, probably not. I have three mouths to feed and other responsibilities, and my job gives me something that I need to keep me structured (if that makes sense).
Will my art work be worth anything someday? I doubt it. The most I’ve ever sold a small painting for was €30. So I’m not to hopeful that people will be ripping my paintings out of my hands, like I’ve heard of other artists. I came into this world with nothing and thats how I will be leaving.
Will I stop painting? Definitely not, I love it to much.
Thanks for stopping by,
I almost wasn’t going to share this, I’m not a assualt rifle supporter. I started this as a sketch and I liked the sci-fy aspect of it so I decided to paint it. Only afterwards did I realize that this could be taken as me glorifying weapons in particular assualt rifles. I spent time around weapons, in particularly automatic and semi automatic weapons, in my opinion there is no reason to own one, and one doesn’t hunt with a semi automatic assualt rifle.
Thanks for stopping by and stay cool,
Due to life getting in the way of drawing and painting, I don’t have anything to show this week. Sooo, I introduce you to an artist that I just discovered for myself: William McGregor Paxton. Tea Leaves is the title of this painting, as if the seated woman would be trying to read her future at the bottom of her cup. Beautifully rendered and is reminiscent of Vermeer, who he looked to for inspiration.
Thanks for looking in,
I’m very happy with this piece. I lost myself in all the details in the dress and hair. This will go in my portfolio. Now on to the next one, I started drawing a dragon scene with graphite, trying something new and getting out of my comfort zone.
Thanks for stopping by,
Finished this, this week. A very good friend of mine posed for this. This and my painting The Raven’s song will be entered into our towns art competition this fall. I’m happy I finished this in so short of time, I guess I’m just getting quicker. I also think its time to get out of my comfort zone and paint a dragon or some other fantastic beast. It will either be a dragon or a sphinx, but then again when I write about what I’m going to do next, I usually paint something completely different.
Thanks for stopping by,
Starting a new painting is hard for me until I find my way into it. Its hard to explain, its like searching for the picture on the canvas and being afraid you’re going to screw something up. You just have to get through this part, I always tell myself.
The first one is only two weeks old (crappy photo) and I’m slowly getting the background to were I want it to be. The second is a portrait, because I like doing portraits and I thought this would be cool and I don’t want to get out of practice with putting down paint wet on wet.
Thanks for stopping by and don’t let fear influence you, we are living in the best of times.
Last weekend I was laying in bed feeling like my head was about to crack open and I wouldn’t have been surprised if Athena burst from my head fully armored ready for battle. But of course I am not Zeus, even though I think every person carries a spark of divinity in them ( some people hide it better). This is what I was working on the time of me being struck down. It wasn’t meant to be a full painting, just an idea that I wanted to see how far I could push. I finally had enough mental strength to pick up my pencil yesterday and do some sketching, it felt good to get back in the saddle.
See you next week,
I was doodling in my sketchbook the other day and came up with this great figure that sort of reminded me of a vampire. I decided tofollow through with this idead and created a 3D character in makehuman and set up a scene for my next painting. Here is the render from Blender that I will use as reference:
I’ll fill out the design of the clothes and add a few trinkets she will be wearing but all-in-all I’m pretty excited about this painting.
I’ll show the finished Wolverine painting next week that I have been working on for the last two months.
See you around,
Hi people, things are getting back to normal here. Life is slowing down and I’m finding time to paint, and finished this last night. I’m slowly gathering ideas for my next larger painting, it will be maybe something under water or a touch oriental-fantasy.
Thanks for dropping by,
