There be dragons.

Did you ever see two dragons fight? I was thinking along this line as I was racking my brain trying to come up with a dragon themed study for my next painting. I also want to show some movement or conflict between two dragons. Maybe a territory fight or one dragon protecting his brood. Anyway I will comitt to this one and see it through to a finished painting. I’ll look for a cool background and cut out the dragons and paste them over it for the finished reference, maybe a mountain with a blue sky.

Thanky for dropping by and stay classy,

Bill

What I’m working on.

Week three

I said I would be getting back to this months ago when I had started working on my two pictures for the upcoming art show in my town. I tried to get rid of all the white. I be leaving the back wall like it is and start working on the arches and wooden door.

Thanks for looking in,

Bill

What I’m working on.

first week

Heres a really bad picture of what I am working on right now. If there is one thing I can do is take a bad picture. This is the underpaint, I’m doing this in shade of burnt Sienna, with maybe a little green and blue thrown in here and there. I’m not even done here and I’ve thought of my next project, I’ve got to slow down and concentrate on this one first.

I modeled the background steps and door on blender and used makehuman for the people in the scene, and with the final render I went over and drew this out on my canvas and am painting over it. I like this procedure, I can control everything and make multiple color adjustments with the lighting, textures and the shadows.

Thanks for looking in,

Bill

Sketchbook post.

Sept-Sketch

This is a sketch that I did last week. I really enjoyed drawing this one, it was one of those drawings that just drew itself. It also gives me the hope that I am doing something right and that all the anatomy studies are paying off (as you can see I’m happy with this one).  I spent around 2-3 hours on this and just sort of kept adding details, I took Jesper Ejsing‘s advice on a post over at “Muddy Colors,” he wrote once, “if in doubt, add details.” And if you get a chance click on the link and check out his great Magic the Gathering art, incredible work.

In six months I’ll probably be embarrassed about it and not know what I was thinking.

Thanks for taking a look,

Bill
