Intruder. Oil Painting

So I finally finished this one. I have to admit, I wasn’t in a hurry and I didn’t push myself. I want to show some action in the painting, a dragon invading the territory of another and the other defending it’s roost. I got the idea from seeing two birds fighting in the air and spiraling to the ground.  My next painting I will see how fast I can get it done, I have an idea and I already started collecting reference material for it.

See you later,

Bill

My painting set-up.

This is my little corner of the house that I paint and draw in. It has a lot of natural indirect sunlight which I love, and I can open the door and go outside if I want some fresh air.

My dragon painting is coming along, I’m still in the “happy-state” where this will be the best painting I’ve ever painted. I also changed the perspective, I think it give the picture more dynamic.

Stay cool.

There be dragons.

Did you ever see two dragons fight? I was thinking along this line as I was racking my brain trying to come up with a dragon themed study for my next painting. I also want to show some movement or conflict between two dragons. Maybe a territory fight or one dragon protecting his brood. Anyway I will comitt to this one and see it through to a finished painting. I’ll look for a cool background and cut out the dragons and paste them over it for the finished reference, maybe a mountain with a blue sky.

Thanky for dropping by and stay classy,

Bill

Sketchbook Dragon study.

Dragon sketch

Hey people, heres something from my sketchbook. I’ve been looking at a lot of lizards and reptile lately trying to get ideas for a dragon. I will probably go with this head, but more horns on his head and maybe one close to his jaw. My next step is to take this into blender and model and then sculpt him. I’ve one or two more weeks on my current painting, I’m closing in on the final layer and we are slowly but surely becoming friends again.

Thanks for looking in and stay healthy,

Bill

Time to get back in the saddle.

dragon head

October was a busy month for me. I had little time for painting and drawing and was ill for two weeks and also had to take care of family that came to visit. There was enough happening to fill two months let alone one, oh, and I also took a trip to Berlin and made some great pictures, which I will share next week. I just wanted to share something I painted yesterday, just to let everyone know that I’m still here and getting ready to paint and draw up a storm this month, that is if life doesn’t get in the way like it did last month.

Thanks for stopping by,

Bill

Drawing something else.

dinos

I’ve been drawing figures and people for almost 1-2 years now and after reading Matt Kohr’s post at his great web site- CrtlPaint.com about drawing things outside of your comfort zone, I decided to draw Dragons, Dinosaurs and animals more. What it comes down to is I need to update my inner vocabulary with other things and not just humans and figures (but I will still be doing these though). Here is a page out of my sketchbook with a few Dinos and a Tiger, I discovered I love to draw animals as much as I love to draw people…, I see a dragon painting on the horizon.

Thanks for looking in,
