Did you ever see two dragons fight? I was thinking along this line as I was racking my brain trying to come up with a dragon themed study for my next painting. I also want to show some movement or conflict between two dragons. Maybe a territory fight or one dragon protecting his brood. Anyway I will comitt to this one and see it through to a finished painting. I’ll look for a cool background and cut out the dragons and paste them over it for the finished reference, maybe a mountain with a blue sky.
Thanky for dropping by and stay classy,
I’m very happy with this piece. I lost myself in all the details in the dress and hair. This will go in my portfolio. Now on to the next one, I started drawing a dragon scene with graphite, trying something new and getting out of my comfort zone.
Thanks for stopping by,
Finished this, this week. A very good friend of mine posed for this. This and my painting The Raven’s song will be entered into our towns art competition this fall. I’m happy I finished this in so short of time, I guess I’m just getting quicker. I also think its time to get out of my comfort zone and paint a dragon or some other fantastic beast. It will either be a dragon or a sphinx, but then again when I write about what I’m going to do next, I usually paint something completely different.
Thanks for stopping by,
Starting a new painting is hard for me until I find my way into it. Its hard to explain, its like searching for the picture on the canvas and being afraid you’re going to screw something up. You just have to get through this part, I always tell myself.
The first one is only two weeks old (crappy photo) and I’m slowly getting the background to were I want it to be. The second is a portrait, because I like doing portraits and I thought this would be cool and I don’t want to get out of practice with putting down paint wet on wet.
Thanks for stopping by and don’t let fear influence you, we are living in the best of times.
In November I told myself I would be painting something ugly. I was a little disappointed in the vote in USA and wanted to let my disappointment out through my painting. I decided to paint one of my comic book heroes that I collected as a kid. I wanted a little symbolism in the painting also, so let me explain:
First, the eye in the background is Prof. Xavier the man who founded of the X-men and a powerful telepath. Second, the the giant X in the background stands naturally for the X-men. The skull stands for death, Logan’s constant companion, but always seemingly out of reach (I know Logan is still dead in the Marvel Universe). Cyclops is also in the background and The Phoenix stands for Jean Grey. The flames stand for the chaos that was his life. Okay I know that was a bit melodramatic but those were the thoughts that I but into the painting, I hope you like it and understand if you don’t, painting with skulls in them usually put people off.
Thanks for looking in,
I was doodling in my sketchbook the other day and came up with this great figure that sort of reminded me of a vampire. I decided tofollow through with this idead and created a 3D character in makehuman and set up a scene for my next painting. Here is the render from Blender that I will use as reference:
I’ll fill out the design of the clothes and add a few trinkets she will be wearing but all-in-all I’m pretty excited about this painting.
I’ll show the finished Wolverine painting next week that I have been working on for the last two months.
See you around,
So heres what I’ve been working on for the last month and a half. I November last year I had no idea what I wanted to paint next. I read somewhere you should paint something or something you are interested in (fan art) or look up to. I decide to go back to my comic book years and pick a character that I thought was cool, my first thought was wolverine or Spiderman. Both character in conflict with themselves ( early spiderman) and their surroundings. I settled on Wolverine. I had my wife take pictures of me posing in different Wolverine poses and settled on this one. I still have about a month and a half work left with this one, but so far I’m liking it.
Thanks for stopping in and stay warm,
Lets get into the winter spirit with a beautiful painting from Pieter Bruegel the Elder. It hasn’t snowed here yet, but we’re hoping to go sledding soon.
Thanks for stopping by and stay warm,
Hi people, things are getting back to normal here. Life is slowing down and I’m finding time to paint, and finished this last night. I’m slowly gathering ideas for my next larger painting, it will be maybe something under water or a touch oriental-fantasy.
Thanks for dropping by,
October, November are busy months for me. Usually things pop up that I have to take care of and then there is little time left for painting. The last two weeks have been like that, I just didn’t get to paint for one reason or another. I do try to sketch or draw (long live the sketchbook) at least once a day. Well it happened again this weekend that I wasn’t able to paint, so took out the pastels and did some studies. One good thing is that I really enjoy pencil drawing and I restarted my Monday night gesture drawing sessions.
Thanks for looking in and be friendly to each other, don’t let the hate take over,
