My painting set-up.

This is my little corner of the house that I paint and draw in. It has a lot of natural indirect sunlight which I love, and I can open the door and go outside if I want some fresh air.

My dragon painting is coming along, I’m still in the “happy-state” where this will be the best painting I’ve ever painted. I also changed the perspective, I think it give the picture more dynamic.

Stay cool.

The First Sword of Braavos, oil painting.

TheFirstSwordOfBraavos-web

“The first sword of Braavos does not run.” When I read that passage in the first book of the Games of Thrones series this character captured my imagination. As a boy I ate up the Three Musketeers. I would make wooden swords and my sister and I would play sword fight. I pictured Syrio Forell almost as an older D’Artagnan, proud and intelligent. I painted this in just over two months and I learned quite a bit, it is also the biggest and complexest painting that I painted so far. I also gained quite a bit of confidence in myself while painting this.

”Thanks for looking in and stay hungry,

Trying to paint the perfect skin tones.

Sitting woman's back-web

Hey, hey people. After reading Jesper Ejsing’s post about painting skin over at Muddy Colors, I tried his suggest and stayed away from using black or paynes gray. I also looked at a lot of Carvaggio and Roberto Ferri paintings and tried to analyze how they handled painting skin tones. I still have a ways to go but I made an advancement with this study.

The Green-Hell, or how I learned how to paint grass.

Einhausen-Bridge Almost -Finished

I started this painting thinking what a cool image this is. We went for a walk in a small village close to us and I took a picture of this bridge, loving the water and all the shadows and the lovely shades of green, thinking this would be a great painting. Little did I know grass is not just green, but a combination of many shades of green and usually a yellow-green when the sun is shining on it. It took me a while to realize this and was always wondering why my grass didn’t look like the grass outside. I still have a few things to do in this painting, but I’m at the stage where I see light at the end of the tunnel and start planning my next painting.

What I’m working on.

first week

Heres a really bad picture of what I am working on right now. If there is one thing I can do is take a bad picture. This is the underpaint, I’m doing this in shade of burnt Sienna, with maybe a little green and blue thrown in here and there. I’m not even done here and I’ve thought of my next project, I’ve got to slow down and concentrate on this one first.

I modeled the background steps and door on blender and used makehuman for the people in the scene, and with the final render I went over and drew this out on my canvas and am painting over it. I like this procedure, I can control everything and make multiple color adjustments with the lighting, textures and the shadows.

Guarding the pass- Artrage digital sketch.

guarding-the-pass-web.jpg

I’ve started taking a night out of the week to sketch in Artrage. This gives me the chance to experiment with the program and see what each tool can do and just have a good time sketching from my imagination. There are some interesting sketches that have come from this. I used the oil paint brush for this one.

Chronos Keep- finished

Pilgrim to Chronos Keep-web

Hi People, I got my computer back last week and tried to finish this piece. I still have a lot to do on the city and am not sure if I’m gonna keep that thingy in the sky, but I think something should be there to even out the picture. I’ll be finishing this this week hopefully, but I won’t post this here again, I’ll just post this on my deviantart. I have some ideas for my next paint, but I still have to sketch things out and collect my ideas. If you have and thoughts about this pic, please comment, I would be interested to hear some thoughts,

Pilgrim to Chronos KeepWIP

Hey everyone, many greeting from the land of Hansel and Gretel. 😉  Heres what I’ve been working on the last couple of weeks. I still have a way to go on this, I’m still not happy with the mountains or the woman . I haven’t even started the cycle or the city yet either, but I see this slowly coming together.

Chronos Keep

I mentioned last week that I had some ideas about a concept for a new project of mine, something that would be a cross between Star Wars and Max Parish.  First off I have to say that I have been reading a book called Hyperion. The Chronos Keep is a place on this planet, and as you could guess from the name, it has a little to do with time and John Keats. So I sketched my vision of what this keep would look like and imaged a Pilgrim or visitor looking at it from a mountain. So I took this idea into Blender and began modeling.

Now after thinking about the concept I wanted to draw more attention to the visitor or the Pilgrim, so made her bigger and the keep more in the background. Here is the blender model I made for defining of the shadows and values.

The Pilgrin renderblack and white

Next I’ll be taking this into Artrage and painting this. She won’t stay nude, I’ve all ready have an idea for her uniform.

Bill
