Portrait session

I tried to get really cold skin tones on this one. The red of the skin didn’t show in the photo. But I’m still happy with it though.

Auguratricis

Hey people, here’s what I have been working on the last couple of weeks. It sort of just happened, I saw the pose and knew I couldn’t pass it up. The background gave me a few sleepless nights until I figured out what I wanted, but I like how it turned out.

Thanks for stopping by and see you soon,

Bill

Oil painting “et Venatricis” and why I Art.

I was going to call this painting Hunting Orcs, because that was my original idea. Someone out in the wild, hunting orcs or trying to protect themselves while being hunted and turning the tables and hunting the hunter. But as I was painting I realized the name didn’t fit so settled on the Latin phrase for The Huntress. I took my time on this one, like I had mentioned before, life comes at you sometimes and Art has to take a back seat. An important person in my life will be having corrective surgery in the next few days and I had to make arrangements. Needless to say I’ve been occupied with other things than Art.

Why I paint and draw and generally why I create my Stuff: (drummmmrollll)

I have no idea why, generally speaking I really don’t know why. I don’t earn money with it. I don’t get a lot of positive feedback either. I guess its just that I get a good feeling doing it and I’m addicted to that feeling. Yeah it makes me feel good to actually draw or paint. I do studies, make reference photos and sketch my ideas out as thumbnails all the stuff that you’re “supposed” to do. Will I ever make this my main job and quit my day job? If thing don’t change, probably not. I have three mouths to feed and other responsibilities, and my job gives me something that I need to keep me structured (if that makes sense).

Will my art work be worth anything someday? I doubt it. The most I’ve ever sold a small painting for was €30. So I’m not to hopeful that people will be ripping my paintings out of my hands, like I’ve heard of other artists. I came into this world with nothing and thats how I will be leaving.

Will I stop painting? Definitely not, I love it to much.

Bill

The Spice Fighter

I almost wasn’t going to share this, I’m not a assualt rifle supporter. I started this as a sketch and I liked the sci-fy aspect of it so I decided to paint it. Only afterwards did I realize that this could be taken as me glorifying weapons in particular assualt rifles. I spent time around weapons, in particularly automatic and semi automatic weapons, in my opinion there is no reason to own one, and one doesn’t hunt with a semi automatic assualt rifle.

5 hour Portrait study, Amy Pond.

I was up in the air about showing this here. I started doing portrait studies, but the catch is I only get 5 hours to finish them. I gessoed a few pages in my sketchbook and looked for subjects to paint (while watching Dr. Who). I wanted to do these in my sketchbook to keep track of my progress. I’m still trying to decide on a subject to paint for this years Art fair, I know the general direction, but I don’t have anyone who will model for me. I guess I’ll just have to get creative.

Thanks for looking in,

Bill

Painting study: The Grape Picker from William-adolphe bouguereau

After multiple nasal infections, visiting family and other things that life throws at you, I’ve managed to finish this study. I didn’t get all the colors correct, but I’m happy with it. I’ll be starting a painting for our annual art fair and I wanted to use this Study to get the feel of bouguereau’s skin technique. He is the master of the beautiful skin Tones.

Noctis Malus.

Noctis Malus-webFirst, Merry Christmas to all. Second, I finished this last week and decided to show it this year. Maybe winter depression isn’t such a bad thing for painting.

Come good into the new year,

Bill

Rogue Assassin Process gif

Here is the GIF that I made of my last painting. I unfortunately only took four pictures, after the third pass I forgot and realized a day or two later, oh well. The underpainting got a little dark, because I didn’t spray the pencil drawing good enough with fixative. The graphite smudged a bit, which I thought at the time would ruin the painting, but I think it turned out pretty good.

Rogue Assassin

Hi people, here is my latest painting and also my fastest larger painting that I have finished so far. I will be taking a break from painting portfolio pieces and make something for a friend of mine. Next week I’ll share a GIF that I made documenting the steps in my painting. I also want to get ready for Inktober and will be doing a lot of sketching with inks, this should be fun.

Thanks for stopping by,

Underpainting, its gonna be UGLY!

I hate to show my underpaintings. This is the stage where I start to think, “What was I thinking.” My underpaintings are usually ugly and this one is no different. I do like how the wall in the background looks, I usually get ideas how the painting will continue when I do the underpaint. It sort of looks like this guy is coming out of a jungle crypt, ready to kick some butt. These are the happy accidents that happen I guess.

Start cool,

Bill
