Oil painting “et Venatricis” and why I Art.

I was going to call this painting Hunting Orcs, because that was my original idea. Someone out in the wild, hunting orcs or trying to protect themselves while being hunted and turning the tables and hunting the hunter. But as I was painting I realized the name didn’t fit so settled on the Latin phrase for The Huntress. I took my time on this one, like I had mentioned before, life comes at you sometimes and Art has to take a back seat. An important person in my life will be having corrective surgery in the next few days and I had to make arrangements. Needless to say I’ve been occupied with other things than Art.

Why I paint and draw and generally why I create my Stuff: (drummmmrollll)

I have no idea why, generally speaking I really don’t know why. I don’t earn money with it. I don’t get a lot of positive feedback either. I guess its just that I get a good feeling doing it and I’m addicted to that feeling. Yeah it makes me feel good to actually draw or paint. I do studies, make reference photos and sketch my ideas out as thumbnails all the stuff that you’re “supposed” to do. Will I ever make this my main job and quit my day job? If thing don’t change, probably not. I have three mouths to feed and other responsibilities, and my job gives me something that I need to keep me structured (if that makes sense).

Will my art work be worth anything someday? I doubt it. The most I’ve ever sold a small painting for was €30. So I’m not to hopeful that people will be ripping my paintings out of my hands, like I’ve heard of other artists. I came into this world with nothing and thats how I will be leaving.

Will I stop painting? Definitely not, I love it to much.

Bill

Liberandum

Hey people,
I decided to try something different on this one. The last couple of weeks I read a few Tutorials in how to digital paint over different mediums. I wanted to try this, so I made a really tight drawing and then proceeded. I also wanted this to be different in terms of subject matter, so I also wanted the painting to have a 1970s science fiction feel to it. I will be doing more of these and will limit it for the time being to sci-fi themes.

By for now,

Bill

Winter Depression.

800px-the_scream

(The Scream by Edvard Munch)

Winter depression is something I struggle with every year. I always seem to have a plan each year of how I’ll get by it, but in the end it usually gets me. I take vitamin D, try to get outside once a day and drawing or painting really helps. But there are still those days where you feel worn to the bone and don’t really see the sense in painting or being creative even though this is a big part of me. Setting a goal for myself also helps me just get through the week knowing other people depend in me, and making their Day brighter helps.

If you or someone you know has winter depression, be understanding, get Help, go See your Doctor. Stay busy if that helps, it helps me.

Hug someone today.

Next week I will get back to my Art. I have a painting that I really liked to paint and am almost finished.

Be carefull what you agree to.

Ok, there is story behind this painting. I asked my brother for idea for a painting. I asked him for three ideas and I would play this through as an Art director giving me an assignment. Now I don’t know how many hours my brother and I played D&D, collected comicbooks together and generally shared a Love for most things fanasty and science fiction. Well He suprised me with the request to paint nothing to do with those two categories. He asked me to Paint our dog in the park playing ball.

I hate painting grass, I try to avoid it at all cost, but I decided to make this into a grass painting study. I really hestitated sharing this, I feel like I was hardly above water while painting this. And Bro if you’re reading this, sorry but I did the best I could.

Rogue Assassin Process gif

Here is the GIF that I made of my last painting. I unfortunately only took four pictures, after the third pass I forgot and realized a day or two later, oh well. The underpainting got a little dark, because I didn’t spray the pencil drawing good enough with fixative. The graphite smudged a bit, which I thought at the time would ruin the painting, but I think it turned out pretty good.

New Toys

IMG_20170625_102037

I bought some new toys last week. I love ink drawings and I wanted to try this for a long time. I’ll be drawing with these in the weekends in my sketchbook.  Next week should be the last week for my dragon painting, just need to finish minor details and correct some shadows, and think up a cool name for it.
