This is my little corner of the house that I paint and draw in. It has a lot of natural indirect sunlight which I love, and I can open the door and go outside if I want some fresh air.
My dragon painting is coming along, I’m still in the “happy-state” where this will be the best painting I’ve ever painted. I also changed the perspective, I think it give the picture more dynamic.

I’m very happy with this piece. I lost myself in all the details in the dress and hair. This will go in my portfolio. Now on to the next one, I started drawing a dragon scene with graphite, trying something new and getting out of my comfort zone.
Thanks for stopping by,
Last weekend I was laying in bed feeling like my head was about to crack open and I wouldn’t have been surprised if Athena burst from my head fully armored ready for battle. But of course I am not Zeus, even though I think every person carries a spark of divinity in them ( some people hide it better). This is what I was working on the time of me being struck down. It wasn’t meant to be a full painting, just an idea that I wanted to see how far I could push. I finally had enough mental strength to pick up my pencil yesterday and do some sketching, it felt good to get back in the saddle.
See you next week,
In November I told myself I would be painting something ugly. I was a little disappointed in the vote in USA and wanted to let my disappointment out through my painting. I decided to paint one of my comic book heroes that I collected as a kid. I wanted a little symbolism in the painting also, so let me explain:
First, the eye in the background is Prof. Xavier the man who founded of the X-men and a powerful telepath. Second, the the giant X in the background stands naturally for the X-men. The skull stands for death, Logan’s constant companion, but always seemingly out of reach (I know Logan is still dead in the Marvel Universe). Cyclops is also in the background and The Phoenix stands for Jean Grey. The flames stand for the chaos that was his life. Okay I know that was a bit melodramatic but those were the thoughts that I but into the painting, I hope you like it and understand if you don’t, painting with skulls in them usually put people off.
Thanks for looking in,
I was doodling in my sketchbook the other day and came up with this great figure that sort of reminded me of a vampire. I decided tofollow through with this idead and created a 3D character in makehuman and set up a scene for my next painting. Here is the render from Blender that I will use as reference:
I’ll fill out the design of the clothes and add a few trinkets she will be wearing but all-in-all I’m pretty excited about this painting.
I’ll show the finished Wolverine painting next week that I have been working on for the last two months.
See you around,
Hope you all had a good Christmas, and I wish you all, all the best for the coming new year. I really wasn’t active here this December, I hardly posted anything that I was working in. To tell the truth I just didn’t feel like it. Usually this time of year I try something new, maybe a new medium or a techinque. I didn’t do that either. What I did do was draw alot, good drawings, bad drawings, I just drew quite a bit. Heres something with a sci-fi Touch to it. My resolution for next year is to draw every day, a sketch or a larger drawing.
Hope you enjoy,
Hi people, things are getting back to normal here. Life is slowing down and I’m finding time to paint, and finished this last night. I’m slowly gathering ideas for my next larger painting, it will be maybe something under water or a touch oriental-fantasy.
Thanks for dropping by,
Please bare with me while I rant, I will get to my point.
I grew up in cold war USA. At the time I was growing up there was a deep hatred / angst for the USSR. There was always talk of Atom bombs and “First Strike Advantage,” I never really knew what that meant at the time or that it made any sense, because basically we would be destroying our planet in the process of “Protecting ourselves.” My little boy brain couldn’t make sense of why would people on the other side of the world would want to destroy us. But I theorized, that they thought they were the good guys too. And that they wanted to protect themselves from us. I felt sad after I realized this, why couldn’t we live in peace?
I the 90’s I witnessed the Berlin wall crumble and the USSR collapse as Bush senior said “there is a new world order.” I thought the world would be a better place as the Doomsday clock was set back a few minutes. The last few years though I have the feeling the world is taking a step backward, the world unity that I enjoyed as a young man is vanishing. I realize that there are reasons for this, globalisation isn’t always good. The small guy doesn’t profit from it usually and the big business is only interested in how much money they can make.
The reason for this rant is, I was stunned this week as probably millions for other people were, I was convinced that world had just made another step backwards. The people that I worked with notice this also, I was depressed and shocked. But I realized I can not change the USA vote by being shock or depressed. But I can make a difference with my friends and colleagues by trying to stay positive and look on the bright side. One good thing is we will be supplied with some A1 comedy for the next four years even if its not intended to be. For those people disappointed that a woman wasn’t elected, this will happen eventually. The world is changing and I do believe for the better despite all the hate being slung around. So make yourself some popcorn, open your favorite beverage and lets enjoy the show.
Stay positive and do something kind for a stranger this week,
Fitting the first weekend of October here is one of my favorite paintings from Jules Bastien-Lepage the beautifully rendered people collecting potatoes against an almost abstract background, tones and values dead on. You know what everything is even though the trees are are just a beautiful mess of carefully place blotches in the background.
